An online store isn’t for everyone – even if your business is focused on making sales online. Content still reigns supreme and it doesn’t always feel the most appropriate thing to send your readers off to an online store, particularly if you’re a health coach or business blogger. It’s a surefire way to build an audience and tap into that precious SEO juice that’s essential for any business to really thrive online.

So how can you integrate sales into a content focused website? In a blog post

Selling a product from a blog post has to be the most organic way to convert a customer. A person that has read through your whole post, much like a landing page, is engaged, interested and most likely ready to take the next step and purchase from you. Blogging is a way for you to connect with your readers on a more personal level, so you need to make sure that when you’re selling from a post you’re being considerate.

A couple of blog post types which are appropriate for adding a Buy Now button or widget are things like a post about a product launch (no-brainer there) or a post that’s relevant to the product e.g. if you’re selling a recipe book you could post one of your recipes and then invite your readers to purchase the whole book.

Sell from your side bar

This is one our favorite ways to use a Buy Now button or widget. Why? Because on most websites your side bar is a constant presence on every page, gently reminding the reader what you’re all about. If you’re clever and you use your widgets right, it gives them a super easy way to buy from you.

What you’ll want to do for this technique is (if you have more than one product) choose a ‘hero’ product. Your hero product is the one that best represents your business or perhaps your latest product that you’d like to promote. If you’ve been doing some marketing for a specific product then choose that product to have in your side bar. This means that when a visitor lands on your site the messaging will be aligned with what they read before they got there which gives them a stronger case to buy.

Button swap with a friend

Got a friend with an online business or blog? Swapping buttons can be a great way for you both to find new customers, make sales and introduce yourself to a whole new audience. This technique can work great if you’ve got similar audiences and have products that align with what each of your audiences want.

For example you might be a business coach who has a product about marketing,  and your friend is a business coach that has a product about sales. Writing a blog post about or interviewing one another not only gives you a reason to create some interesting content about another influencer in your niche, but it gives you an organic way to help each other out in boosting a few sales. All you need to do is give each other the snippet of embed code – it’s easy.

Sell from a landing page

Want to sell straight from a landing page without having to send your visitor off to a store they could get distracted in? Convert right on your landing page with a Buy Now button. Landing pages don’t just have to be about awareness or email list signups – you can also use them as a super engaging way to tell a detailed story about your product and encourage focused buying.

Sell from your About page

Your About page is one of the most powerful pages on your website and one of the most visited. Visitors click on your About page for a bunch of reasons – they want to see if the business can serve them, they want to find out about how successful the business is, and they want to make sure the site is legit. It’s where you can build trust with your customer and tell your story in your own words. It’s one of the few places on your online store where a visitor might properly sit and read the content in a highly engaged way rather than skim and scroll.

If your products speak to what your business mission is all about, or you are the face of your brand and you’ve got a product that’s almost like an extension of what you’re all about, then your About page can be the perfect spot to squeeze in a Buy Now button.

For example, if you’re a health coach and you’re selling an eBook that tells your personal story about your journey, then having a button to by your story is a great way to invite buyers to purchase. Rather than sending your buyer off to your store to browse, you’ll reduce friction, increase sales and be selling in a feel-good way.

Obviously this technique doesn’t work for every kind of seller – you need to be making sure that doing this isn’t taking away from the integrity of your About page. Be selective about your product choice and test it out to see if it’s effective for you.
