Let’s face it. Running a business is challenging. Blogging is challenging. Add affiliate marketing to the equation, and juggling all these pursuits can become downright overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be.

The solution is to integrate them in a way that’s authentic, transparent, and time saving. You’re doing double duty here. First, your content is highlighting your business’s new and products. Second (and this is where the affiliate element comes in) you’re giving your readers insight into how you use specific products and services.

What does this look like? I put together a sample blog post to show you exactly how you can do this:

Wow, what a week! After three weeks of writing, editing, and creating my latest Ebook, this baby is finally available for you to download. Make It Work! Designing Your Home Workspace For Calm, Creativity and Brilliance is an insightful, comprehensive resource for anyone who wants to transform their space into a productive haven. Once you’ve identified your wants, needs, strengths, and weaknesses, I offer design elements as tools to help you create an environment where you can create your absolute best work.

I’ve covered a lot more traditional home areas in my previous Ebooks: Cozy Common Spaces, Restorative Restrooms, and Beautiful Bedrooms. Over the past few months, so many people have reached out to me and expressed that they want to use feng shui to increase their productivity or creativity at home.

It makes perfect sense to me! More and more of us are working remotely, developing crafty side projects, or launching our own businesses – all from home. I myself work from home when I’m not onsite with clients, so I understand the struggle. Creating a professional space in one’s home isn’t something that traditional feng shui really addresses, but it’s totally achievable when you utilize the guiding principles, reflect on your needs, and actualize design changes.

And you don’t necessarily need to put up a wall (or a bunch of cash) to get that dream office or studio.

For this first week only, I’m offering Make It Work! at a discounted rate – $7 instead of $12. It’s my way of saying thank you to you guys, my wonderful readers!

As many of you know, Selz is my Ecommerce platform of choice. I love that they let me offer limited time promotional prices for new items! It’s a great way to get a product to loyal customers first – at a lower price. If you’re looking for an Ecommerce platform that works great for digital products, you should definitely check out Selz.

In the next couple weeks, I will be launching some videos and blog posts about different home work environments I’ve created in the past. From my food blogger client’s Instaworthy kitchen, to a basement turned darkroom and photo studio, this approach works for every type of professional. Stay tuned!

This post is successful for a few reasons. Let’s break down why it works.

1. It shows restraint

First, it doesn’t jump right into affiliate marketing. That’s woven in later with a simple, relevant transition. It can be jarring to readers when you bring up a platform, product or service without any context. It doesn’t just hurt your pitch, it can actually work against your content and come across as inauthentic.

2. It’s consistent with the blogger’s voice

Secondly, this blog post stays true to form. While we don’t know too much about what this blogger usually writes, we can guess this post isn’t a radical departure. She talks about her business, gives a glimpse into her personal life, and addresses her audience in a believable, friendly manner.

Every once in awhile, you’ll come across a blogger that completely changes their voice when they give affiliate marketing a shot. Remember, even if this is the first time a reader is on your blog, they’ll still notice inconsistency after just browsing a few articles. Staying true to your voice is key.

3. It’s relevant and authoritative

Third, it reestablishes authority and stays relevant. I probably wouldn’t click through if a financial management website suggested a skincare subscription service, or if a mommy blog suggested an exotic travel booking service. Why? Because those services don’t really align with the content of the writers promoting them.

However, this post shows the product in a relevant context – small business management and selling online. What’s more, it reestablishes the author’s expertise not just as a feng shui practitioner, but also as a competent, savvy entrepreneur.

I hope this sample blog post gives you the tools and confidence to try something similar for yourself! Remember, like anything else, affiliate marketing takes some practice to get perfect.

At the end of the day, it’s all about embracing your expertise and influence. Don’t ever feel like you need to sacrifice the integrity of your brand to implement affiliate marketing.

The more authentic you are, the more successful you will be. If you’re interested in becoming a Selz Affiliate, learn more here.
